This year's FADS entry in the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) festival of one-act plays is 'Eight O'Clock', by Reginald Berkley. The company put on a brilliant performance against others from the Stirling/Falkirk area on 23rd February and emerged triumphant! We now go through to the Eastern Division final, which takes place from 22nd to 24th March in Killin.
The play was one of a series written specifically for London's Grand Guignol. It ran for over 120 performances at the Little Theatre in the 1920s, but has not been performed on stage since - until now.
This award-winning FADS revival is directed and produced by Martin Turner, with Josh Frazer assistant producing.
Synopsis
It is 7:30 on the morning of the 17th January 1921, Aldgate Prison, London. The scene is a condemned man’s cell, before he is led off to be hung. A chaplain tries to make the man commit to god, but the man is not interested. As the time of his death approaches he is led to believe that there may be hope of a reprieve, so he agrees to kneel and pray with the Chaplain; but there is no reprieve and the man is led to his death realising he has been tricked.
