Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Cinderella auditions last night. We’ve just got a few more people to see and will be making final casting decisions next week. Sorry for the wait – we’ll let you know as soon as possible, promise!
Meanwhile, we’re preparing for another audition night next Tuesday, 2nd Sept. This is to cast the full-length play, ‘The Fairmer Wants A Wife’, which we’ll be putting on next spring (going into production Dec/Jan, after panto).
This is a rollicking Scots comedy with great character parts. Auditions will start at 7.30pm in the Menzies Hall.
Synopsis
All of Scotland is awash with anticipation of the impending State visit by King George IV, none more so than the Laird of Hawthornden, Sir Robert Drummond. Widowed for many years and endowed with a roving eye and hands to match, he decides that he desperately needs a wife if he is to be invited to the many Royal Balls and Banquets.
A conniving widow quickly ensnares Sir Robert whilst he is nursing a sprained ankle, and her grasping brother sets his sights on the Laird's young daughter. However, the daughter has already fallen in love with a penniless artist who, unbeknownst to her, is in fact the very suitor her father has been secretly arranging for her to marry. The maidservant overhears this and reports back to her young mistress, who then plays her errant lover and father at their own game. Meanwhile, the Laird's sister and the housekeeper hatch their own plan to win the Laird away from the widow.
Throw into this chaos a German Baroness who is not all she seems and some awful weather, and you’ve got yourself a hilarious romp, filled with twists and turns.
